We are delighted to have been able to return to our ‘regular programming’ after two years that were disrupted by the covid-19 pandemic and pleased to report that the participation numbers are now back the levels they were before the pandemic.
In 2018-2019, we had 18,525 children who benefited from the subsidies and programming and this past year (2021-2022), we have reached 18,714 participants.
We also have added some exciting new co-existence content in the education department: an integrated scout troupe, with both Arab-speaking and Hebrew-speaking young people for ages 12-14. This program leads on the existing Zoo Patrol program for ages 14-16.
We are also pleased to report that we have increased the number of Arab-speaking guides at the Zoo and the Aquarium by 50% in the past year and this has included the addition of another ten guides who are qualified to lead groups in Arabic.
As in previous years, we continued to have in the summer months, Arabic speaking guides at the education stations which are scattered around the Zoo.
At the Gottesman Family Aquarium, we have trained an additional five Arabic speaking guides in addition to the two existing guides.
