The daily Socio-Educational Centre Pinocchio (Panciu, Romania) provides scholastic support and education to 50 children and youngsters of the most disadvantaged brackets of the local population, paying a special attention to the Roma minority. This project will support the formal and non formal educational activities (afterschool, literacy, creative workshops, education to hygiene), as well as the canteen service in order to foster a proper children's nutrition.
In Panciu, out of a total population of 8000 inhabitants, 750 are children (3-14 years old) and 700 belong the Roma minority. The Centre Pinocchio provides social services for 50 disadvantaged minors and their families. Among them, the rates of illiteracy, unemployment, scholastic drop-out and juvenile delinquency are high. The Centre Pinocchio wants to prevent such situations of vulnerability, discrimination and social exclusion, guaranteeing educational opportunities and a healthy nutrition.
Through means of education, care and socialization, the Centre Pinocchio aims at preventing social vulnerability and marginalization and at fighting discrimination. It daily provides the following services: canteen, afterschool and scholastic rehabilitation, literacy, non formal education workshops (sport, painting, theatre, education to hygiene, games, handicraft workshops, jugglery, etc.), individual and group counseling sessions for children and families.
The Centre Pinocchio will support the socio-educational development of 50 disadvantaged children of Panciu (Vrancea county, Romania) through educational interventions, prevention and socialization. Beneficiaries of such services are also children's families, who mainly belong to the local Roma minority and amount to a total of about 130 people. The Centre strongly believes in the importance of education, as a factor that can make the difference in the future of one child and his/her family.
