A Mother’s Story: “This program saved me.”
Here’s what one of the parents in our program shared:
*"When I left Ukraine, my boss allowed me to continue working remotely in marketing. But working from home with my 3-year-old daughter was nearly impossible. She needed my attention constantly—I had to prepare her meals, put her down for naps, and find ways to keep her entertained. This program has been life-changing for us. My daughter loves coming here—she learns new things every day, makes friends, enjoys delicious meals, and even takes a nap in the afternoon. I can finally work without interruptions, knowing she is in a safe, loving place. This has been a huge relief for our family. My husband struggles to find steady work, and we barely manage our expenses in this new country. This program has given us hope, stability, and support when we needed it most. I am so incredibly grateful!"
A Safe Place for Learning and Growing
For children, stability and education are essential—especially in times of uncertainty. Through the Ukrainian Children's Kindergarten Project, we continue to provide a warm, nurturing environment for young refugee children who have been uprooted from their homes.
Every month, we support 18-20 children, aged 2 to 6 years, in our early education program. Here, they find more than just a classroom; they find a place to belong, to learn, and to grow.
Every day in our program is filled with opportunities for children to develop independence and confidence. With the guidance of caring teachers, they learn to:
Learning Romanian is also an important part of their journey. Through engaging weekly language classes—with songs, rhymes, and games—they pick up essential words and expressions, making integration easier and giving them the confidence to interact with their new community.
In addition to this, seven Ukrainian children have been integrated into a Romanian kindergarten in our city. To support their transition, we provide a Ukrainian-speaking educator, helping them navigate a new language, new routines, and a new beginning. Many have already made remarkable progress in Romanian, and several are now preparing to start primary school this year.
More Than a Kindergarten—A Community of Care
At our center, we don’t just teach—we celebrate, we connect, and we create lasting memories.
In December, the children experienced the magic of Christmas, decorating, singing, and receiving gifts that filled them with joy.
In January, we organized a special cultural event with a Romanian kindergarten, where 23 children learned about winter traditions together.
In February, we welcomed a team of international volunteers who brought new games, activities, and smiles.
In March, the children proudly performed a small show for International Women's Day, a heartfelt tribute to their mothers and caregivers.
These moments remind us that childhood should be filled with laughter, discovery, and love—no matter where a child comes from.
Helping Working Parents Rebuild Their Lives
For refugee parents, balancing work and childcare is an enormous challenge. That’s why we also provide extended daycare for children whose parents are employed.
For 6-7 children, this means staying at the center until 4:30 PM, giving their parents the peace of mind to work while knowing their little ones are safe, well-fed and cared for.
Join Us in Making a Difference
These children did not choose to leave their homes—but together, we can help them rebuild their future.
