In this opportunity, we want to share Oswer's inspiring story that became a reality thanks to your generous contributions.
Oswer embarked on his journey as an Enseña Perú professional in the remote village of Wawico, Imaza, Amazonas. One of the first challenges he encountered was the widespread malnutrition among the students. These young learners, on their arduous daily trek to school, often spent 1 to 2 hours in transit, leaving them without the opportunity for a nutritious breakfast.
In the face of this harsh reality, Oswer saw a tremendous opportunity. The school had an unused open space, perfect for promoting healthy eating habits. This led to the inception of the "Nunja Bendita" school garden project.
"To construct it, we began incorporating all subjects. In mathematics, we explored concepts like area, perimeter, and layout, among others. In social studies, we delved into native elements and land constraints, and so on in each course. We demonstrated that learning wasn't limited to the classroom but extended into our daily lives."
The ripple effect of the project extended to the entire community. Parents enthusiastically pitched in with their labor and were motivated by the project's benefits. The children eagerly anticipated the garden's progress and took responsibility for its care. So much so, Oswer noticed a remarkable change. At the beginning of the school year, the group was divided between those who spoke Spanish and those who spoke Awajún. However, their shared goal and collaborative efforts transcended language barriers.
This innovation profoundly impacted Oswer's teaching experience and the students' education. It offered a fresh perspective, aligning education with their real-life needs and providing a lasting solution.
We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the generous donors whose support made this transformational project possible. Your contributions have truly enriched the lives of these young learners and their community. Together, we are shaping a brighter future.
