Merhaba from Insan school,
Winter slowly goes away meanwhile spring is settling in Lebanon. To stay enthusiastic and energetic during the winter, Insan planned new promising workshops to keep children learning and to enhance motivation to come to the school.
Thanks to different funders and donators from GlobalGiving, Insan welcomed 12 new pupils during winter, 7 in January, 4 in February and 1 in March. These arrivals were only possible because Insan identified children in need, the number of children by class is generally limited to 20 students.
The center is welcoming various types of public : from 4 to 7 years old, children are supported to integrate Lebanese school. From 7 to 10 y.o, it’s becoming more difficult to make them reach Lebanese traditional school, so they have to pass an adding exam implemented by UNICEF to attend Lebanese schools. Insan wants to insist on 10 to 14 y.o children, to give the opportunity to be self-confident but also to discover new skills through socio-educative workshops. Some of them are illeterates because of war in their home countries or they couldn’t reach a Lebanese school.Through language lessons, Insan also wants to work deepen with beneficiaries between 10 and 14.Those are the priority of Insan and we are looking further to supporting them to feel conscious they could bring a lot to the society.
Regarding the students concerns, they elected cooking classes to be implemented, so Insan recruited one French and one Iranian cook' chefs to provide vocational training every Friday morning. Resulting a very comfortable feeling and a perfumed smell spreading all around the school. Insan provided all the tools and utilities needed to help students producing their tasty meals. These activities are a part of the vocational training that Insan committed to implement in the Beirut’s center project, it allows teenagers to get out of marginalization and to feel empowered on their capabilities.
Our cooking and drawing/sculpture classes are implemented since 2 months now, but also informatics and English courses are an example of what we are proposing to children. Insan provided computers to the student for informatics classes’, teached by an international volunteer, he supported them to use Pack Office and to learn about topic presentation of their daily life. Our dedicated educational team is fully involved to bring the maximum of personal and professional skills to the students. They implemented some awareness sessions about garbage collection and upcycling and some scientific experimentation once a week.
The association' teams (psychosocial, educational, animation) are always thinking about improving the daily life of the students. Consequently, Insan back office team is looking forward to create new partnership to multiply animations and workshop for beneficiaries. For example, Insan is looking for youth organizations, and motivated volunteers to give classes and animation sessions.
Once a week, a youth based Lebanese association will come over to provide life' skills classes, to work with children on oral expression and make awareness on Gender Based Violence. These trainings are an added value to the workshops that student are already receiving. Every Thursday, a psychologist and animator come to the center, to support children and their families about their daily life issues and traumas.
Regarding its holistic approach, Insan is including the family shell in its projects, based on beneficiaries’ concerns. Insan is conscious about lack of exchanges between host and refugees communities, the Insan staff is improving awareness session’s about intercultural dialogue and women’s rights and violence for example. We are always try to workshops on sensitive topics, which are maybe not prioritary for students once at home.
Middle of April, Insan’s children from KinderGarden 2 ( mostly 5 y.o) are invited to visit a lebanese school, to see where they go afterward. They will proibably spend the entire day with others students, exchanging and playing.
Children are enthusiast to play outside on sunny days again. The school trip for 2019 is not decided yet but all our staff is looking forward to have as a good time as last year zoo viewing !
Thank you for your generosity and looking forward to hear bck from you !
