After 15 years of working in low-income communities, we reinforce the importance of promoting the development of language and pre-literacy. We understood that it´s extremely important to work from an earlier age on these issues, this is why we began "Playing between Words"
a reading workshop for three-year-old children from Early Childhood Centers in poor neighborhoods. This workshop is based on the fact that the early literacy process begins from the first years of life as long as children participate in their homes or community spaces interacting with literate adults who impart this knowledge and skills.
"Playing between Words" prioritizes the game and the ludic spaces as means to favor the development of language, expression, and comprehension, as well as the initiation in the understanding of symbols and alphabetic sounds, and the development of imagination and the links between peers and referents.
It is based on children's literature enhances integral development, which uses words in such a way that they produce a playful and educational effect that allows them to go becoming familiar with an increasingly broad language.
2023 began, and with it, the school year. Like every year in February, we begin the activities with the children of Barrio 21-24 (21-24 Neighborhood) of Buenos Aires City. After planning and establishing the objectives for the year, we decided to introduce improvements to the program that help us to focus and better the results.
To continue deepening the work - comprehensive early childhood development - this year, we have decided to expand our base of organizations with which we work and where we have an impact focusing on Kindergartens, Early Childhood Centers, and early years of Elementary Schools. This year we aspire to work with over 120 children from 3 to 8 years old from at least three new organizations.
