Supporting Children in Flood-Affected Villages

By KAUFUSI DANIELA | Projects Coordinator

Day Center in Pechea Village Renovated and Revamped After Cyclone Boris
Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of our donors, the Day Center in Pechea village has been renovated and fully revamped after the devastating floods caused by Cyclone Boris. While minor exterior repairs are still needed, the onset of winter has temporarily halted the work.

In December, children were able to return to the Day Center, and the daily programs have resumed. Seven of these children, whose homes were also severely damaged by the floods, received material assistance, including food, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, construction materials, furniture, and small household appliances.

Christmas Joy for All
During the festive season, all children enrolled in our programs received Christmas gifts, spreading much-needed cheer in these trying times.

Support for Education
We continued providing monthly scholarships to children from rural areas, helping 30 regular beneficiaries. In December, we extended this support to 30 more children from flood-affected areas, as many parents are now unable to finance their children's education. For many families, these costs include transport, accommodation, and meals for children attending high schools or universities in urban centers.

These additional scholarships for children from flood-stricken zones will be granted for six months. Additionally, to further support education, we donated 35 desks and chairs to families who lost almost everything during the floods, ensuring the children have a proper space to study and complete their homework.

Plans for 2025
In the coming year, we aim to continue supporting children in rural areas, focusing on those from the 20 villages most affected by the floods in our county. Even before the disaster, these communities faced significant challenges, such as limited job opportunities, low-quality education, and long commutes to schools or work. The floods have only worsened their situation, severely damaging homes, schools, libraries, and public institutions.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed through donations and volunteer work! Together, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of these children and their families.

Your support is essential, and in 2025, we remain committed to rebuilding hope and providing opportunities for a brighter future in these communities.
