Standing With Children, Rebuilding Villages

By Daniela Kaufusi | Projects Coordinator

Hope That Reaches the Villages

Project News & Community Updates

The past months of our work in rural communities have been intense and deeply meaningful. We continued to stand beside children from disadvantaged families, helping them remain in school, while also staying present in villages still recovering from last year’s devastating floods.

Nearly a year later, recovery remains slow. Some families are still living in containers or improvised shelters. Many people have not yet been able to rebuild their lives. Local businesses were lost, farmland was damaged, and entire communities continue to struggle to regain stability and hope.

Through all of this, our work has continued.

On September, Heart of a Child Foundation, together with Sun Wave Pharma, inaugurated four newly renovated classrooms at the only school in Slobozia Conachi, a village deeply affected by last year’s floods. More than a renovation, the project brought volunteers, laughter, creativity, and shared moments—transforming old classrooms into bright, welcoming spaces where dozens of children can now learn with joy and confidence.

We maintained the daily activities of our day center in the village of Pechea, offering consistent support to 25 children. Here, children receive help with homework, learn new things, and take part in meaningful activities in a safe, caring environment. For many of them, the center has become more than a program—it has become a second home.

At the beginning of the school year, we distributed backpacks and school supplies so children could start school with dignity and confidence. Today, over 80 bright and motivated children from rural villages receive monthly scholarships, helping them cover basic education-related expenses. Over the past year, more than 430 children received school supplies and backpacks through our programs.

As winter arrived, needs grew even more urgent. With the support of many generous-hearted donors, we provided winter jackets and boots to more than 100 children living in difficult conditions. During the Christmas season, our children went caroling in their communities, spreading joy, warmth, and hope. We were also able to offer over 100 Christmas gifts, bringing moments of happiness to homes where such moments are often rare.

We are happy to share that our work was also publicly recognized. At the Galati Community Gala, our organization received an award for the humanitarian campaign carried out in flood-affected areas—an acknowledgment of compassion, perseverance, and the power of working together for those in need.

Andreea’s Story: Small Gestures, Big Hope

Success Story

Andreea is eight years old and has been attending our day center for about a year. She comes from Pechea, a rural village with very few job opportunities, severely affected by last year’s floods.

She joined our program because her family cannot offer her the support she needs every day. Her mother never had the chance to go to school and can barely read or write. Her father is away for work most of the time, sometimes for weeks or even months. Without daily guidance and encouragement, Andreea would struggle greatly.

And yet, Andreea is full of life and joy. She has big, bright eyes that seem to speak even before she says a word. She loves coming to the center and never wants to miss a day—not even when she is sick.

At the center, Andreea receives help with her homework, learns new things, and takes part in activities that help her grow in confidence and curiosity. She also receives nutritional supplements and, from time to time, school supplies and clothing—simple but essential things that help her go to school prepared, confident, and proud.

At school, Andreea is doing well. Her teacher shared with us that she is developing beautifully for her age, making steady progress, and that today there is truly no difference between her and children who grow up with every advantage at home—a quiet but powerful reminder of what care, consistency, and belief can do in a child’s life.

Every day, Andreea greets us with hugs. Almost daily, she brings us two or three handmade cards to say “thank you.” Through these small gestures, she gently reminds us how powerful kindness, stability, and love can be.

Thank You for Being Part of This Story

Every activity, every smile, and every step forward is possible because people choose to care. Your generosity allows us to remain present in villages that are still healing and to support children when families cannot do it alone.

Behind every number is a child.
Behind every story is a donor with an open heart.

Thank you for standing with us.
