VAENTINA, JUAN and SOFIA are stories of overcoming

By ANA PALACIO | EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

In Medellin, many vulnerable young people, despite adversity, dream big. Among them is Valentina, an 18-year-old girl who grew up in a neighborhood where opportunities are scarce and challenges are many. Since she was little, Valentina saw her friends and family trapped in a cycle of violence and poverty, but she always had her dream: to study architecture and contribute to the transformation of her family.

Through SUPERARSE, Valentina learned about a university scholarship that offered higher education programs to young people in vulnerable situations. With her heart beating with excitement, she decided to apply. After weeks of preparation and nerves, she received the news: she had been accepted!

The first day of classes was a whirlwind of emotions. Valentina felt small among so many students, but also full of determination. As the weeks went by, she realized that she was not alone. She met other young people like her: Juan, who was passionate about engineering, and Sofia, who dreamed of becoming a doctor. Together they formed a study group and supported each other in every challenge.

Higher education not only gave them knowledge, but also a new perspective on life. Valentina learned about urban planning and how to design spaces that foster coexistence and peace. Juan immersed himself in projects that sought sustainable solutions for his city, while Sofia committed to returning to her community to offer medical care to those who needed it most.

As they advance in their careers, they are not only transforming their own lives, but also those of those around them. Valentina designed a park in her neighborhood that became a meeting place for the community. Juan implemented a renewable energy project that helped reduce costs in his neighborhood. Sofia organized health and prevention campaigns that improved the quality of life for many families.

Today, Valentina, Juan, and Sofia are examples of how higher education can be a driver of change. Their story is a reminder that, despite the difficulties, in SUPERARSE dreams are achievable and that, with effort and dedication, it is possible to transform not only their lives, but also those of an entire community.

By supporting this project you will be supporting hundreds of young people like them who represent a pride and are the future of our city and our country. Thank you
