Food is the most basic need in life and securing it for the poor on monthly basis can help with their health, social and financial statuses. The economic status has affected the underprivileged families negatively, hence; it affected their productivity. Therefore, Egyptian Food Bank designed the monthly feeding program in 2006 to support the poor & most needy families. The program relies on sending monthly feeding boxes to the beneficiaries’ on monthly basis. - EFB covers 250,000 families per month. - All families that receive EFB’s monthly feeding box, were previously studied and registered in EFB’s database. . The boxes are delivered to them on monthly basis. In order to have an organized process, the research department studies all suggested cases and evaluate them from the most to the least in need.
Today ,Egyptian food bank(EFB) is not keen to provide access to sufficient food to its beneficaries but also keen to provide nutritious, diverse diets and preferred food items . As such , EFB consulted with the Egyptian National Nutrition institute to redesign its monthly food packages to include nutritious and diversified food items . The newly designed food packages aim at meeting the individula micro and macro nutritional needs including carbohydrates , fats ,protiens ,vitamins and minerals ,etc. Consequently , EFB designed two distincit food packages , one that meets the dietary needs of a female -headed household composed of a mother and her three children and the other is tailored to a two person house hold whose provider is disabled or elderly .
The newly chosen food items were selected based on logistical and operational considerations including enduring adversewheather conditions and transportation to far distances .
