By Cora Sayre | Project Leader
Dear Friends,
Greetings from Zamboanga del Norte. In our latest meeting with officers of the WAND Foundation, we decided to focus our attention to providing water and sanitation support to identified towns severely hit by the El Nino and try to tap existing water sources that have not yet dried-up to provide water to local communities. We will use proven, cheap technologies such as gravity-fed water systems using a relay of bamboo pipes and polyethylene hoses. The municipalities we decided to work on are Sergio Osmena, Polanco and Pinan. They are adjacent and with good road network and in our latest assessment we can see that there are potential water sources that can be tapped. Our aim is to provide much-needed water so that proper sanitation and hygiene can be promoted. We will also install giant rainwater harvesters using ferro-cement technology when we are able to source for funds.
Very sincerely yours,
Cora
