From Caregiver to Being Cared For

By Yeung Lok Yi | Specialist

87-year-old Grandma A-Qiao was once the strong pillar of her family. After her husband retired and suffered a stroke that left him partially paralyzed, she took on the responsibility of caring for him for many years. It was only after he passed away that she realized she herself needed care.

As she grew older, Grandma A-Qiao’s hearing gradually declined. She also developed chronic illnesses and dementia, making mobility increasingly difficult. Although her children were unwilling to leave her alone and took turns keeping her company, they had to work during the day and could not stay by her side for long periods. One day, she was involved in a traffic accident while crossing the street alone, resulting in a complex shoulder fracture. Afterward, she frequently fell at home, which greatly worried her family.

Considering her safety and well-being, her family decided to bring her to Eden’s “Pingtung Yifu Community-based Long-term Care Center.” Each morning, after getting ready, she rides the shuttle to the day care center, where she receives professional and attentive care. Her children can now work with peace of mind, without constant worry.

Since joining the day care program, Grandma A-Qiao’s life has transformed. She has regained her smile and become more cheerful. Here, she has many friends to chat with and reminisce about the past. The center provides a safe, comfortable, and friendly environment, caring not only for the seniors’ physical needs but also supporting their emotional well-being. At the same time, it gives families true peace of mind.

For Grandma A-Qiao, this is more than just a place to be cared for—it is a home where she can live safely, happily, and feel warmth again.
