Dear Friend,
I hope this finds you well.
We wanted to send you a quick update to let you know that we are still working hard to support the women of Siem Reap, especially in the area of domestic violence.
Over the last few months we have seen an increase in counselling cases and are aware women and children are suffering more from domestic violence due to the additional levels of unemployment, home schooling and the stresses and strains of the current climate. When women come to the center to collect emergency supplies we check on them and create a safe space for counselling (with COVID precautions), we are also able to take counselling cases over the phone or online.
As there is currently no community transmission in Cambodia we are able to do some socially distanced workshops and talks when women collect their supplies and this is a good time to talk about domestic violence, womens health and rights and positive parenting. We are also conducting workshops online.
We have also been applying for grants to study the exact levels and effects of domestic violence and work towards having an even greater impact in supporting these women.
In December we will run our annual campaign that fights to Eliminate Violence Against Women with our talks and support online or in small socially distanced groups, rather than take part in large scale community events. We look forward to updating you!
Thank you for you support!
Gemma and the WRC team
