As part of our Safer City for Girls Project and on the occasion of International Women's Day:
On the 8th March 2022, WRC successfully conducted a campaign for International Women’s Day, combining both national and international themes.
A total of 78 participants attended the event.
Our 4 main themes were:
"Gender Equality Today for Sustainability in the Future"
"Raising awareness of gender equality through the mainstreaming of gender equality within the role of guardians"
"Breaking through the bias and eliminating gender biases"
"Creating a safe atmosphere for women and girls"
The event received plenty of positive feedback, and according to pre and post test results, attendants increased their level of understanding and challenged the following stereotypes and biases:
- I will correct my son, brother or nephew if I see him playing with dolls, that is for girls!
- Boys and men should not cry because it shows weakness
- Girls and women do not need to study a lot because they are responsible for housework and baby caring at home.
Recreational Activity with young girls/ women - Football training
During April, within our gender transformative approach, we worked on strengthening girls’ and young women’s agency through football training. 4 Groups were successfully formed, with a total of 60 girls and 4 football coaches. They all received 1 set of sports uniforms and 1 pair of football shoes.
They received 5 sessions of football training lessons consisting of warm up, conditioning, stretching, responsibility and division of the group in roles (defender line, football sticker line, football midfielder, goalkeeper, etc.). Likewise, they had 15 different matches.
Girls can play football too :D
