Baby food, as well as children's clothing and footwear, has become more expensive during the months of April and May. New data from the Consumer Price Index (CPI) is hitting childhood hard: baby food prices have increased by 15.2% so far this year, while in the last month, the price of children's clothing has skyrocketed with a 13.7% increase, and footwear has seen a 7.1% rise, according to the published figures.
Furthermore, essential foods for a balanced diet, such as vegetables and legumes, have increased in price by 14.6%. These are foods that provide the necessary nutritional intake for children, as explained by pediatrician Cristina Alfaro Iznaola to Aldeas Infantiles. These numbers are not just figures; they translate into worsened conditions for Spanish households at risk of poverty and social exclusion, with children being the ones who suffer the consequences.
