Project Report | Sep 16, 2025
Project report September 2025

By Isabella Schwarzenberger | Philanthropy Manager

In 2025, Caritas Austria continued its dedicated response to the ongoing war in Ukraine, addressing the urgent needs of vulnerable communities while also investing in long-term resilience. Building on decades of experience and our strong partnerships on the ground, our work focused on humanitarian relief, child protection and education, innovative homecare services, and strengthening local capacity.

Key Achievements in 2025

1. Humanitarian Aid for Conflict-Affected Populations

  • Assisted more than 12,000 individuals in Eastern and Southern Ukraine through targeted emergency support.
  • Provided winterization assistance to over 4,000 households, including heating fuel, warm clothing, and cash support.
  • Improved access to safe water and hygiene for 3,000 households by upgrading WASH facilities and distributing hygiene kits.

2. Empowering Vulnerable Children and Youth

  • Enabled 3,500 children and young people to access quality education, life-skills training, and inclusive learning opportunities.
  • Strengthened 2,500 families through counseling, legal support, and parenting programs designed to create safe and nurturing environments.
  • Partnered with schools and local organizations to train teachers in child safeguarding and inclusive practices, creating safer learning spaces.

3. Expanding Homecare and Palliative Care Services

  • Delivered professional homecare and palliative services to 1,500 elderly and chronically ill individuals across 12 locations.
  • Expanded the “School of Volunteers” initiative, preparing more than 250 volunteers to provide compassionate, non-medical support.
  • Introduced new digital platforms to improve coordination and case management, increasing the reach and effectiveness of care.

4. Building Community Resilience and Capacity

  • Organized advocacy forums and policy dialogues with local NGOs and authorities, helping to strengthen systemic responses for vulnerable groups.
  • Supported disaster risk reduction and community preparedness trainings, improving resilience in regions most exposed to conflict and crisis.

Impact

Through these efforts, Caritas Austria has provided life-saving assistance while also building stronger, more resilient communities. By combining humanitarian relief with systemic development, we continue to support people in Ukraine not only to survive the war but also to prepare for a safer and more inclusive future.

Looking Ahead

In 2026, Caritas Austria will focus on scaling up educational programs, broadening psychosocial support for children and families, and deepening partnerships with local actors to ensure long-term, sustainable impact.

Together with our partners and donors, we remain committed to standing by the people of Ukraine in their time of greatest need.
