Thank you for your support this winter!

By Zuhra Dadgar-Shafiq | Program Director

Dear Friend,

All of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces struggle with persistent drought conditions, an ongoing economic crisis, ongoing conflict and consequences of COVID-19—all of which have led to the widespread loss of livelihoods, sky-rocketing prices for food and other essential commodities and increased hunger and poverty.

An estimated 22.8 million Afghan people, more than half the country’s population, faced acute food insecurity during 2022. The situation has disproportionally impacted the children and pregnant and lactating women. As hunger spreads, health facilities continued to fill up with malnourished new born and children. The NGOs were at the interface of the service delivery, AfD is proud of its activities implemented during 2022, struggling to address the growing need. AfDs services are marked as essential and life-saving during this time of protracted crisis.

Thanks to the donations and partnerships that we have had, we were able to reach nearly 850 individulas in Paktika province (via distribution of douvets), 1400 individuals in Kabul, nearly 600 individuals in Parwan province (via distribution of coal).

In addition to provision of coal sacks (to be used to warm up the small "sandalies" during winter) and big, double sized douvets that would keep the people warm during the night, we also provided additional packages of food. Our food supplies contained a sack of 24kg rice and a canned cooking oil of 5kg. Each package (a sack of rice and a canned oil) were provided per familiy, the families of widows, disabled, female teachers who lost their job due to ban on employment and schooling. of Nearly 2000 people (275 families) received food supplies that would enable them to survive one month.

Apart from this during the last quarter AfD provided 6000 warm meals through its schools/hubs for educaiton of street workign children in Kabul and Parwan provinces.

During this difficult time of famine and hunger we put hunds together to reach out to the most needy people.

AfD is thankful to the donors who trust our program and are there to support us in the time of need and urgency. Without the support of the dedicated donations AfD received through different means, we would have not been able to implement these actions.
