Afghanistan is grappling with one of the most complex and devastating humanitarian crises in the world. Decades of conflict, climate-induced disasters, and entrenched poverty have plunged the nation into an emergency of unprecedented scale. Over half of the population—more than 23.7 million people—requires urgent humanitarian assistance to survive, with women-headed families among the most vulnerable.

The Current Crisis

Afghanistan faces a multitude of challenges, including:

  • Severe Food Insecurity: Over 15.8 million Afghans are battling acute food insecurity, with families surviving on minimal resources. Basic food items have become unaffordable for many, forcing families to sell possessions to buy food.
  • Harsh Winter Conditions: With freezing winters approaching, families lack sturdy shelters, warm clothing, and essential items like blankets and sleeping mats. For many, this winter could be a life-or-death struggle.
  • Economic Collapse: The economic downturn, compounded by restricted foreign aid, has devastated livelihoods, leaving millions without jobs or income. Women-headed households are disproportionately affected, with higher rates of food insecurity, child labor, and early marriage.
  • Impact of Natural Disasters: Climate change-induced drought and recent earthquakes, particularly in Herat Province, have displaced thousands and left 275,000 people in dire need of shelter and basic services.

Why Women-Headed Families Need Immediate Help

Women-headed families represent the most at-risk group in Afghanistan:

  • Many rely on emergency livelihood strategies to survive.
  • Barriers to women’s participation in public life and education exacerbate their vulnerabilities.
  • Early marriages of daughters and child labor have risen as coping mechanisms.

Your Support Can Save Lives

Your generosity can make a tangible difference. Donations can provide:

  • Life-Saving Food Aid: Help feed families facing starvation and provide malnutrition treatment for children under five.
  • Winterization Support: Supply essential items like blankets, warm clothing, and sturdy shelters to help families survive the winter.
  • Cash Assistance: Enable families to purchase food, medicine, and other necessities with dignity.
