A common adage in our local tradition says, " a child who says the mother will not sleep let that child also know that they will not sleep. This means to say as long as COVID 19 remains stubborn, we will not get tired.
It is against that traditional philosophy that we continue to battle COVID even as it takes an uphill trend. During the period under review, Camp for Peace Liberia recapitulated its effort in providing education and awareness among local people many of whom still believe that COVID 19 is a myth. We conducted awareness in 12 communities showcasing the realness of COVID and the danger it poses to mankind and humanity. We told participants that the fight against COVID 19 is not an optional choice that anyone can make. Instead, it is a must that everyone should believe in and take the necessary precaution and prevention in eradicating it from the earth. It does not matter where one lives. It is a global battle and can only be defeated through a collective effort and unwavering bullets.
Through our awareness, we were able to break barriers and misconceptions that continually hinder the eradication of COVID 19, making it subversive. A 62 years elder quotes, "why if you have not come from your comfort zone to reach in this jungle with awareness messages, what would happen to us? What would happen to our young generation? We want to be grateful to you and your donors for saving our lives from this deadly disease"unquote.
As a result of our intervention, rural community dwellers have transitioned from being reactive to becoming proactive. They are now washing their hands regularly. They have stopped shaking hands and unnecessary touch, practicing social distancing, and observing signs and symptoms of COVID 19. These various steps have helped reduce the number of cases reported in the region during the period under review.
In the word of one of our donors, quote, " I have no regret of donating to your project to fight COVID 19. I wouldn't have spent my money any better way than this by helping to save lives in a distance that is many miles away from me. COVID generated from several miles away, and no one ever thought it would reach this far. With this assumption, I believe that the best way to eradicate COVID 19 is to attack it in the same many miles away from me. I call this the law of replication. I am pleased to be a benefactor of your project".
As we move forward in the months ahead, we will double and extend our efforts to hard to reach so that the message of collective engagement can continue.
All these can be possible if we, as service providers, remain honest, sincere, committed, and accountable to the community we serve. These attributes will help us to overcome COVID 19.
