Across many communities worldwide, there is ongoing debate about whether COVID-19 awareness and preparedness still matter. Some argue that prevention is no longer a concern, while others maintain that sustained awareness and outreach remain essential. We agree with the latter. It is a prudent obligation, and an act of courage, to intensify education about COVID-19’s risks and to stay robust and proactive in prevention.
The benefits of continued awareness are significant. Good hygiene practices reduce not only COVID-19 transmission but also other illnesses such as diarrhea, cholera, malaria, and typhoid. Regular handwashing, respiratory etiquette, and timely care-seeking keep families healthier, schools open, and communities resilient.
During the period under review, Camp for Peace Liberia integrated COVID-19 awareness into all program activities. We promoted frequent handwashing, appropriate distancing when feasible, immediate reporting of unusual symptoms to the nearest health facility, and the use of masks when individuals feel unwell or are in crowded public spaces. Through this ongoing outreach, many communities we serve continue to practice preventive measures and maintain strong public-health habits. In short: yes, it still matters, and we will continue the awareness
