The humanitarian situation in Uganda's Karamoja sub-region remains extremely critical, with hunger continuing to affect hundreds of thousands of people. Recent assessments indicate that approximately 473,000 people, representing nearly 32% of the region's population, are experiencing IPC Phase 3 (Crisis) food insecurity or worse. This means that many families are unable to meet their daily food needs and require urgent humanitarian assistance to survive.
The districts of Kotido, Kaabong, Moroto, Karenga, and Nabilatuk remain among the hardest hit, where prolonged drought, poor harvests, and high food prices have left communities struggling to access sufficient food. Parents are skipping meals so their children can eat, while many children attend school hungry or are forced to drop out altogether in search of food or work to support their families.
Health centers are reporting increasing numbers of malnourished children and pregnant women, placing additional pressure on already limited health services. Without immediate intervention, the situation is expected to worsen, particularly during the lean season when household food stocks are completely exhausted.
Good Cause Foundation Uganda is committed to responding through emergency food distribution, nutrition support for children and mothers, clean water interventions, and livelihood recovery initiatives. Every donation can provide lifesaving assistance and restore hope to families facing one of the worst hunger crises in Uganda.
