Every Donation Can Save Lives in Karamoja

By Jawanghe Joseph | Project Leader

The hunger crisis unfolding in Uganda's Karamoja sub-region is more than a shortage of food—it is a humanitarian emergency that threatens lives, dignity, and the future of entire communities. Thousands of families are struggling every day to survive as prolonged drought, repeated crop failures, high food prices, and limited livelihood opportunities continue to deepen poverty and food insecurity.

The most vulnerable members of society—including young children, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, elderly people, people living with disabilities, and child-headed households—are bearing the greatest burden of this crisis. Many families have exhausted their food supplies and now survive on one small meal a day, while others go for entire days without eating. Parents are making heartbreaking sacrifices by skipping meals so their children can have something to eat, yet even these efforts are often not enough.

Health facilities continue to treat increasing numbers of severely malnourished children who require urgent therapeutic feeding to survive. At the same time, schools are experiencing higher absenteeism as children struggle to concentrate on empty stomachs or leave school to help their families search for food and water. Without timely intervention, the long-term effects of malnutrition, interrupted education, and poor health will continue to trap communities in a cycle of poverty.

Every donation has the power to make a meaningful difference. Your support can provide emergency food baskets, nutritious meals for children, therapeutic foods for severely malnourished infants, clean drinking water, hygiene supplies, and livelihood recovery assistance for vulnerable households. Together, we can protect lives, restore hope, and help families regain their dignity while building stronger and more resilient communities.

No contribution is too small. Every act of generosity brings us one step closer to ensuring that no child goes to bed hungry and no family is left to face this crisis alone.
