On August 2026, flash flooding struck Dabanira IDPs Camp in Tawila,North Darfur, an area already home to displaced families. A joint field assessment by SAMA, our local partner, and local authorities confirmed 725 households lost their homes entirely, with 241 more partially damaged. Families now face flooded shelters, contaminated water, and dwindling food stocks. SAMA has committed $5,000 to provide emergency food baskets to 600 of the hardest-hit families - help us raise the remaining $25,000
In August 2026, flash flooding struck Dabanira IDPs Camp in Tawila, North Darfur, an area already home to families displaced by conflict. A joint assessment by SAMA, Alaioun (AOPDHA), and local authorities confirmed 725 households lost their homes entirely, with 241 more partially damaged - nearly 6,000 people affected. Flooding destroyed shelters and food stocks, leaving families exposed to unsafe conditions with limited clean water, and facing rising risk of hunger and disease.
SAMA, in partnership with our local implementing partner Alaioun (AOPDHA), will provide emergency food baskets to 600 of the 725 households whose homes were completely destroyed. SAMA has committed $5,000 as a seed contribution and is raising the remaining $25,000. Baskets will be distributed directly to families in Dabanira IDPs Camp [ in coordination with local authorities, ensuring aid reaches those confirmed most in need through our joint field assessment.
This response strengthens SAMA's presence and rapid-response capacity in North Darfur, building on our existing health programming in Tawila. By partnering with local organizations like Alaioun and coordinating with local authorities, SAMA reinforces community-driven response systems that can act quickly as flooding risk continues through the rainy season - leaving families with a trusted, present partner rather than a one-time intervention, and building resilience against future climate shocks
