Dear Donors,
It has been several weeks since devastating flash floods swept through northern Nepal on August 26, but for thousands of families, the emergency is far from over.
Homes were destroyed, roads and bridges washed away, water systems damaged and entire communities displaced across Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading. The United Nations says more than 84,000 people were affected and has launched a $49.6 million emergency appeal to support the response.
Reaching some communities remains difficult. In Rasuwa and surrounding areas, damaged roads have turned journeys that once took a few hours into much longer and more dangerous trips. This means families in isolated areas may have to wait longer for food, clean water, healthcare and other assistance.
There has been progress. Humanitarian teams are providing water, food, shelter materials and healthcare. In Nuwakot, emergency water systems have restored access to safe drinking water for around 2,000 people, and a mobile clinic has been set up to serve up to 100 patients each day. But the scale of the disaster means much more assistance is still needed. This project was created to help families affected by this disaster.
We are grateful to donor, whose first donation has started this appeal. Thank you for choosing to stand with people thousands of miles away during such a difficult time. Funds will support food, temporary shelter, healthcare and other relief based on the needs identified on the ground.
We also thank our partners, supporters and humanitarian workers already helping families across the affected areas.
Our target is to reach 1,500 survivors, and we still have a long way to go.
If this appeal speaks to you, please share this project with your friends, family and colleagues. You can also become an individual fundraiser and invite people in your network to support families recovering from the floods.
We will continue to update our donors as funds are raised and our work with local partners moves forward.
The flood lasted for hours, but rebuilding a family's life will take much longer.
Thank you for standing with the people of Nepal.
With gratitude,
Adaego
