By Balint Kosa | Project Manager of Ukraine Project
I had a business trip to Japan in June in order to report the project progress to Japanese donors. On 30th June, I finished all the trip schedule and waited for check-in to the flight at Narita Airport. Suddenly, one of the donors rang my phone. He is Mr. Toru Oki, the representative of International Therapy Dog Association (ITDA). He said that the picture book published by ITDA, focusing on the story of the first therapy dog in Japan “Chirori”, was translated in Ukrainian. So, he wants to donate it to Ukrainian children through our organization. And he said he would bring 200 books packed in a suitcase to the airport from now. I was a little bit surprised but decided to accept his offer.
Chirori was originally an abandoned dog, almost euthanized by a public health center. However, Mr. Oki protected and raised her as the first therapy dog by special trainings. Through her experience, he would like to encourage children living in the war-time Ukraine.
On 20th July, I had an occasion to visit Ukraine, so I brought the suitcase filled with picture books and handed them over our local counterpart (the Greco-Catholic Church). The counterpart will distribute them to schools and orphanages in Ukraine through the church network.
"May everyone's life be blessed". This is the most important message of the book. I hope everyone in Ukraine get back to their ordinary lives, become free from fear or want, and live happily.
