Dear friends,
with this report Aleimar and the local partners in Mangochi District (Early Child Development Center and Tiyende Pamodzi Association) would like to thank all the people that have decided to support and to donate to this relief fund dedicated to children and families in Malawi.
The local condition is still concerning due to climate factors. Almost every family in Malawi is a farming family, a source of great strength for the country’s economy. This was seen a few decades ago when the country was regularly exporting agricultural produce to neighboring nations.
However, this means most families have also been extremely vulnerable to climatic stresses and shocks. International and national Meteorological agencies say the upcoming 2023/24 rainy season (also known as the lean season when food supplies diminish) in Malawi is expected to be influenced by El Niño. In the past, El Niño conditions have been linked to a delayed start of the rainfall season, below-normal precipitation, and dry spells.
One year after Cyclone Freddy, much has been done: Aleimar and the local partners have distributed emergency food kits, have built new homes and have provided the local population with pedal pumps - fundamental in agriculture. For these reasons we have decided to suspend this emergency relief fund. However, Aleimar will keep monitoring the local situation in order to support the population of Mangochi District.
