In Ukraine, where the Russian invasion has dragged on, critical infrastructure including electricity, heating, and water supply has been repeatedly damaged. The government and the private sector are prioritizing the restoration of these facilities to minimize disruption to people's lives, but there is a serious shortage of skilled personnel such as electricians, plumbers, and welders. This is one of the major obstacles to the region's recovery.

With support from Enabel, the Belgian development agency, this project aims to train electricians in collaboration with the city’s vocational training school and private companies that provide heating and water utilities. These electricians will be responsible for installing and maintaining power transmission and distribution equipment, as well as electrical facilities. Trainees will acquire the practical skills needed in the field by utilizing actual equipment used by companies and participating in a dual education program (40% classroom lectures, 60% practical training). They will also complete internships at companies.

This program aims to support women, veterans, and others in pursuing new careers

We anticipate 150 participants, half of whom are current employees of local infrastructure companies seeking skill development. Furthermore, the project focuses on providing opportunities for those who want to start new jobs, including women who have lost their spouses in the war, veterans, and young people. To encourage mothers’ participation, a childcare space will be provided within the vocational training school.

Human resource development contributes to regional reconstruction

The personnel trained through this project will be responsible for maintaining and restoring the region's electricity, heat, and water infrastructure, and will be a great force in supporting the reconstruction of Chernihiv, and Ukraine as a whole. Furthermore, we hope this will lead to stable employment and income for the participants, contributing to the revitalization of the regional economy.

Peace Winds continues to stand by those affected by the war, providing emergency relief, as well as working on human resource development and community building to support reconstruction, so that the people of Ukraine can take a step towards the future.
