A social preparation was conducted in collaboration with LGU Camalaniugan through their Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office and Municipal Planning and Development Council. Our local partner in community organizing is the Community Development Center of Saint Paul University Philippines Tuguegarao City.
Mapping, interview and Focused-Group Discussion was held to prepare them and validate their needs. There are 130 Indigenous Peoples’ families (Agta tribe) from Purok 7,8,9 of Barangay Joaquin Dela Cruz, in Camalaniugan, Cagayan. The Chieftain was interviewed to hear the current situation of the Agtas and he expressed that they are in need of lights, since there is no grid, they wish to have solar lamps and residents were interviewed as well to validate their need and they have confirmed.
The Municipal Mayor was grateful to have new partners for development that will complement their responsibility and work to empower the Indigenous People. He is willing to collaborate with partner’s initiative for the good of the Agtas. We learned from the Municipal Planning and Development Officer that LGU Camalaniugan is 2nd to the poorest town of Cagayan and made him thankful to have Global Peace Foundation and GlobalGiving as their new community development stakeholder.
