Sebastian and 2021 Growth

By Genevieve Frederick | Founder/President

Sebastian
Sebastian
Wrapping up the figures for 2021 can be a daunting task. At the same time, it is very enlightening. The amount of growth we have seen is hard to wrap my head around but the number of pets we continue to be able to help because of our generous donors is heartwarming.

Our stats from 2020 to 2021:
• Emergency Veterinary Care appointments up 28%
• Cost of those appointments increased 54%
• Pets needing care up 29% (88% of pets are dogs)
• Discounts from hospitals increased 19.2%
• Number of network hospitals up 81% now over 1,370 as of Dec. 2021
• Pet food donated and reported up 35.5%
• All five program expenses are up 52.4%
Supporters:
• Grants from Foundations up 30.5%
• Bequests up 252%
• Individual and Company support was up 138%
Calls made and taken by cases managers elevated from 8,402 to 11,659. That's an increase of 3,257 calls, equaling a 39% climb. With this increase in phone usage, we found it necessary to obtain an answering service that is available 24/7.

-----------------------------------------------------------

David has been homeless for one month and is currently living in shelter provided by the VA. He is approved for HUD-VASH but has not been able to secure permanent housing yet. He reached out to Feeding Pets of the Homeless for his 8-year-old service dog, a male husky, Sebastian.
Sebastian was attacked by another dog at the shelter and appeared to have a dislocated hip.

An intake was completed over the phone and HUD-VASH was verified by VA.

Following the exam at one of our over 1,400 partner veterinary hospitals, it was determined that Sebastian's hip was not dislocated but he was suffering from severe glaucoma and tested positive for tick fever. Medications were provided to treat the tick fever and surgery was scheduled to remove the eye affected by glaucoma

Feeding Pets of the Homeless contributed $1,558 towards Sebastian's care and received a partner discount of $59.

---------------------------------------------------------------

We have eased the suffering of pets like Sebastian while easing the anguish of their human, like David, who does not have the resources to pay for a veterinary hospital.
We could not have achieved these incredible expansions and changes without you. My sincere appreciation for your support and generosity.
