Each month we receive many calls from people experiencing homelessness whose pet is ill or injured. This is one of their many stories.
A man from Las Vegas, NV has been living in his van for the past year. He receives food stamps and has zero income. He reached out to Feeding Pets of the Homeless for his 10-year-old male border collie, JD (Just Dog).
While in the parking lot at 7-11, his dog was hit by a car. He had a friend pay for the dog to be seen at a vet the day he was hit. JD was suffering from a broken femur and broken hip.
Unfortunately, JD’s owner did not have the money for the surgery that was needed to repair the broken femur and hip. He called Feeding Pets of the Homeless asking for help.
An intake was completed and homeless verification was provided.
Our case manager reached out to a local Veterinary Hospital for a surgery estimate and an appointment was set for surgery.
Feeding Pets of the Homeless contributed $2,034 towards JD’s surgery and he is expected to make a full recovery.
He may be JD (Just Dog), but he is more than just a dog. He is companionship. He is comfort. He is everything to his owner.
These pets are with their owners 24/7. The human-animal bond between the two is stronger than we can imagine. Helping them to stay together is so important for both the animals and humans.
I am forever grateful you choose to support Feeding Pets of the Homeless to help pets like JD.
