Hello, my name is Shadow and I’m a 6-year-old neutered Labrador Rat Terrier Mix. My dad has had me since I was a puppy. We are now experiencing homelessness and living out of our car in the San Bernardino, CA area for a little over 18 months. We get SNAP benefits but as you probably know we are not allowed to purchase pet food. So, we go to a local food bank that does distribute pet food for me.
My dad noticed that I started to limp. When examining me, he noticed one of my nails had grown so long it cracked straight down the middle. This was causing me a lot of pain. My dad started to become very worried, so he took to the internet and came across an organization called Feeding Pets of the Homeless that might be able to help. Once my dad called and completed his intake interview and homeless verification was provided by a social worker at the county, I was off to see my veterinarian, that had seen me before.
When I arrived at my appointment, I became a little agitated so the doctor sedated me so some x-rays could be done, and some blood could be taken. Once the x-rays were back it was confirmed that my toe needed amputation. My toe was amputated, and I was given some pain meds and sent on my way.Thank you to
Feeding Pets of the Homeless for contributing a total of $1,526 to my care.
My dad would like to say: I would just like to take a moment to thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me and especially my loyal companion Shadow for taking this pain away. Your organization is a wonderful thing for people who are really in need. When I get back on my feet, I will make it a goal to make sure I donate until I pay it forward you are a blessing, and this organization has been a blessing as well. Again, thank you so much. He is already wagging his tail and feeling so much better. Night after night I saw the red in his eyes and I knew he was in pain so badly, and you lifted that from him, and I thank you so much.
Hello, my name is Frances and I’m a 9-year-old Terrier Mix I live in Louisville, KY
My mom realized one day that I was needing my vaccines updated and that I had fleas. So, my mom reached out to her Social Worker at the VA and was told about an organization called Feeding Pets of the Homeless that helps Veterans with their pets when they are in need. My mom got the number and called, and once the intake was completed and verification was accepted, we were able to make an appointment.
My visit to the vet’s office was routine and during my exam it was discovered that I indeed was infested with fleas. So, the doctor thought it also be a good idea to be tested for heartworms since it is prevalent in the area where I love to play.
Thankfully my heartworm test was negative. So, my vaccines were updated, and I was given some medication to prevent fleas and heartworms.
Thank you to Feeding Pets of the Homeless for contributing a total of $255 towards our care.
My mom would like to say thank you to Feeding Pets of the Homeless. Without organizations like yours helping Veterans in need, she wouldn’t know what to do. Thank you.
