Hello wonderful donors,
We are wishing you and your loved ones health, abundance, and connection this season!
Our connection to you bolsters our spirits and our organization's foundation. Thank you again for your financial support this summer! We are delighted to report that with the money raised, TYoFU was able to address some critical needs for our organization and farm this fall.
Permitting
TYoFU would like to build staff housing, livestock infrastructure, poultry infrastructure, storage, and sanitary facilities on the farm. Such plans of course require land use permitting, so TYoFU drafted their site layout plan and gratefully welcomed a site visit from the local environmental officer, as pictured. The visit went well, and TYoFU's layout plan was approved!
Construction of Sanitary Facilitaties
In order for TYoFU to engage farmers full-time and to welcome visitors and volunteers to the farm, safe and sanitary bathroom faciltiies are essential. Last winter, TYoFU invested in biodigester technology for the safe storage and sustainable transformation of waste. With the financial support from this summer, TYoFU is in the process of building the above ground bathrooms and toilets, 4 in all, as pictured! Only intermittent heavy rain is stalling the project, which should be completed this fall.
Planting and Harvesting
TYoFU has in cultivation maize, beans, cassava, sweet potatoes, orange tree, jackfruit trees, soursop tree, and avocados. Maize, cassava, papaya, and sweet potatoes are being harvested.
TYoFU has begun the construction of a beehive. The beehive will bring bees to the farm to help with natural polination, as well as offering a regular honey crop.
Employment
14 youth farmers have contributed to the building of farm infrastructure and the cultivation of crops this past quarter. These young people receive compensation, training, mentorship, and access to clean water for their families.
Staff Training & Coaching
Director Martin Tomusange and Financial Manager Doreen Zawedde were able to receive training relevant to their respective roles, including:
Partnership
In August, TYoFU was invited by Georgetown Global Consulting (GGC), a student-led consulting organization at Georgetown University, to receive pro-bono consulting and research services. With GGC's help, TYoFU applied for a grant from the Youth Climate Justice Fund in September.
Martin has also joined the Clear Harbor leadership cohort, organized by Vessel Strategy and Consulting, and TYoFU remains a grateful participant of the GlobalGiving learning community.
Thank YOU.
Thank you again for your incredible support. While TYoFU will earn more revenue as the farm grows, your donations are essential for the farm and organization to develop the foundation we need to serve young people and the environment.
We hope you will follow the relevant social media link to stay connected about what's happening on the farm! May there be health, abundance, and community for all.
Warmly,
Martin, Doreen, Devon, and the TYoFU team
