...When was the last time you looked at a person with a disability and valued their unique ability and talent?
People with disabilities are still left behind when it comes to education, training and employment. In Vietnam, they are considered a burden by society and often defined based on their limitations. For many, access to school education and a regular job remain unfullfilled dreams. While physical barriers can be broken down, changing people's perceptions seems to be the most challenging endeavor of all...
In July this year, five brave young adults joined a life-transforming Cooking Training at REACH Hanoi. Last month, we had the honor of witnessing their graduation. These talented individuals, despite facing many socio-economic challenges, have proven that with determination, support, and the right opportunities, they can achieve their dreams.
The 2-month program was tailored to the specific needs of students with hearing impairment and aimed to help them gain technical skills, find employment, and boost their confidence. We're happy to say that we've seen remarkable progress in all these areas. Placing our graduates in the workforce, however, came with its own set of challenges. Employers often lack experience with people with hearing impairment, and convincing them to hire individuals with disabilities can be a struggle.
Despite these challenges, we are committed to working tirelessly alongside our students to find suitable job placements that align with their skills and aspirations. Together, we can break down barriers and create a more inclusive workforce.
"The students are exceptionally smart and quick learners. They bring a tremendous work ethic to the table. We are impressed by their dedication and enthusiasm, which makes them a valuable addition to our team."
This endorsement from an employer emphasizes the importance of recognizing and harnessing the potential of individuals with disabilities in the workplace. It's proof that with the right opportunities and support, everyone can thrive and contribute meaningfully. Our students' parents, too, have played a crucial role in this process. They are proud to see their children confidently and shopping for ingredients at the market and cooking meals independently. This newfound independence not only empowers our students but also enriches their daily lives and increases recognition by the community.
Your support acknowledges the incredible potential in each young person we assist. Your contributions have already brought about a substantial difference, enabling us to shape a world where aspirations become attainable, irrespective of the obstacles encountered.
Together, we are catalyzing change, one inspirational journey at a time. We extend our heartfelt appreciation for your generosity and dedication to effecting a lasting impact in the lives of remarkable individuals like the graduates of our Cooking Training Program.
