Here is another update from our Sports Programme in Cambodia!
We have been successful in recruiting two new young, energetic coaches; Phin and Sanay. Both have been picked from the community were we are working. This enables us to educate our coaches and impart sports knowledge, knowing that the knowledge will spread and stay within the community. They were trained under coach Lak for around 2 months. They have started running sport and physical education sessions in the village schools schools on a daily basis.
The new coaches joined our coaching clinic. It was divided into 2 sessions: theory and practical. The theory session covered Globalteer’s goals for the programme, followed by detailed discussions on physical education and football. The practical session held extensive football drills, emphasising on individual development as well as on the importance of team play, communication and fair play.
The highlight of December 2019 was most definitely the HHC Sports festival!
The Helping Hands Cambodia sports day was an effort to engage our students in friendly competition in simple individual and team sports. Along with the participants, the event also invited all parents to spectate, enjoy the games & the music, and provide support to their children. We had events such as sprinting, long jump, relay race, sack race, tug-of-war, football, volleyball, etc. Hudreds of children participated with around 150 parents turning up to cheer on their kids.
This event worked as a fun day out for a lot of people whilst bringing the community together. Through such events, Globalteer also aimed to build co-beneficial relationships with other NGOs working in similar areas. This event also acted as a practice run for the larger community festival day Globalteer is aiming to organise in March/ April 2020.
