Cambodia Sports Programme Update

By Genny Richard | Project Assistant

Stretching during a socially-distanced lesson!
Stretching during a socially-distanced lesson!

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the entire world, and our Cambodia Sports Programme is no exception. Although we have had to adapt the programme over the last few months, our work has not stopped! Taking responsible precautions, and after discussions with the leaders in the village where we work, we have still been able to conduct some sports lessons with our kids near their homes, while maintaining hygiene rules and social distancing. It is important that our students are still receiving physical education during these times, keeping both their bodies and minds active and healthy.

Goals for Girls

We are happy to announce that preparations for the Goals for Girls aspect of our programme are underway. This programme will support about 25 girls, ages 16-19, bringing them together for a series of leadership workshops on the soccer pitch. Over the course of 1 year, these girls will use soccer as a tool to learn and discuss things like role models, leadership skills and the role of women in the community. It is our hope that these skills developed on the soccer field will translate into everyday life. We hope to begin workshops with our first group of girls within the next month.

New Coach

Since our last update, we have also hired our newest sports coach, Un Sokhim. We know she will be a great teacher for our students, and also an inspiration to the girls participating in the Goals for Girls programme! We’re excited for the perspective she will bring to our project.

We hope to have more exciting updates for you with our next report!

And as always, thank you for your continued, invaluable support. If you would like to donate, and we hope you do, please visit our page! You can also subscribe to our newsletter for regular Globalteer updates regarding this and all of our other projects!
