Sport class is the best part of the day for many of the students at Helping Hands School. They find it hard to sit and study in the classroom, so they really appreciate the chance to get out on the sport field. They especially like the team games and are always keen to learn more.
Recently their coaches have been trying to introduce new games and warm up techniques. The students get excited easily, but they still listen well and play together with a great spirit. In the new year, they are looking forward to playing football every day, and learning some more new skills.
In Cambodia, the last few months have seen the end of the rainy season, and the start of rice harvesting time. This has made it difficult for some families to consistently send their children to school. Sport class has been a reason for students to attend as much as possible. The teachers have all spoken about how important it is for their health and happiness.
For the month of December, our partner schools will be closed for their winter vacation. Sport classes will continue at Helping Hands School, but it will also be a chance for their coaches to refresh and make plans for the new year. The dry weather also gives us the chance to complete our renovation of the playing areas at the partner schools. New goalposts are being installed, and land has been added to the pitches to make them more level and smoother. There are also new volleyball nets and basketball hoops on the way.
Learning new sports is always interesting for our students, so the coaches are being given opportunities to attend coaching courses, and there will be sessions led by guest coaches and volunteers in the coming months.
