menstrual support
We share some of our experiences working with adolescent girls and young women who are at risk of FGM, Child Marriage, and other forms of violence in the last quarter.
We supported girls who are at risk of FGM and child marriage with access to information and services on Sexual Reproductive Health and rights which is important for them to make informed choices about their lives and bodies. We supported the girls with sanitary towels for their monthly periods.
We worked with girls across 5 schools in the different 4 sub-counties of Kuria. In each school, we reached approximately 50 girls between the ages of 9 to 17 years.
During our engagement sessions with the girls, we were able to share information that was critical during the period of FGM in November and December. We shared referrals to safe shelters where they can run in case they need to be safe, we also shared some of the key offices and centers where they can access the services they need like health centers -adolescent and youth-friendly services where they can report the cases and even the local community leaders who can offer the support they need. .
We have also carried out village-to-village Engagement with the community members to address and amplify social and gender norms transformation to ensure girls within the Kuria community are kept safe and have access to education.
Through the GlobalGiving platform Girls are able to receive appropriate and quality services for FGM prevention, protection, and care.
