How do you educate 18,000 girls in Zimbabwe?…One girl at a time!!!
Will it make a difference when there are so many? It will to that girl!!!
The Sandra Jones Centre is committed to helping to educate 18,000 girls in Zimbabwe. While the task may seem huge, over 100 girls have already passed through our doors and received education and training in either agriculture, hairdressing, dressmaking and catering. And many of them now have employment or started their own business.
Each one will tell you that we made a difference. That her life is better because she was educated.
Cynthia was 21 when she joined us. Left disabled after a serious accident, we worried that our agricultural course would be too hard for her. However, she surprised us all with her determination to learn and was one of our hardest and brightest students. She now has full-time employment on a farm nearby and one day dreams of owning her own farm.
Sandy was orphaned as a small child and grew up in a children’s home. She joined our program at the age of 18 and showed a gift at hairdressing. Sandy is now a fully qualified hairdresser and has full-time employment. Next year she will donate some of her time to the Sandra Jones Centre to train other young aspiring hairdressers.
We are so proud of the many girls we have had the privilege to educate and will to continue to remind them that:- Education is the one thing no one can take away from you. – Elin Nordegren
