Dear Donors,
We are happy to share with you this quaterly report, the trainees have been sensitized with social and health trainings.The sensitizations outlined below occurred in this quarter:
Reproductive Health:
. 41 trainees attended the training
. The session covered artificial methods used in family planning such as pills, injections and female and male condoms
. Trainees understood how to use all the methods covered and were also able to ask questions and dispel rumors they had heard about these methods.
Breast Cancer:
. 42 trainees attended this session
. The session raised awareness on breast cancer and the importance of early detection. Trainees were also taught how to conduct a self-examination and those who wanted got an exam from trainers. There were no anomalies detected
Worker’s Rights:
. 41 trainees attended the 2 sessions.
. Trainees learned the responsibilities of employers and employees, the definition of a contract and types of contracts, as well as leave rights and retirement
. Trainees were able to look and review different contracts and understand the binding agreements
.Trainees liked the sessions as this was new information to them (very few have signed a work contract before) or were even aware of workers’ rights.
First Aid Training:
. 44 Trainees attended both sessions.
. They learned how to take care of nose bleeds, fractures, bleeding injuries in an emergency, and also how to prevent people from choking
. The first session covered the theory while the second session was more practice based.
. Trainees enjoyed the session as most of the techniques were new to them and very informative.
Sexually transmitted diseases:
. 41 trainees attended the session
. It covered diseases such as HIV/AIDS, gonorrhoea chlamydia, hepatitis B, and herpes
. It also covered protection, safe sex practices, and prevention
. Trainees were able to ask any questions they wanted and receive guidance from the social worker
Human Trafficking:
. 40 trainees attended the session. They learned about human trafficking and the most common ways it is practiced.
. The session also covered ways to avoid human trafficking and also ways to assist a person suspected to be a victim.
Cervical Cancer Training
. 42 trainees attended the session
. Trainees learned about cervical cancer focusing on the signs and symptoms as well as prevention
Job Preparedness:
. 41 trainees attended this session.
. Aspire invited a mentor who owns a business and has hired two interns from Aspire came to give a pep talk to the trainees.
. She advised them to apply to as many places as possible and to not be afraid to go around with their resumes and cover letters and give them out
. She also encouraged them to be willing to start humble.
. She also insisted on the need to be professional at all times including respecting time and alerting a supervisor in a timely fashion if an issue arises.
