Title: Tent School Supporting Out-of-School Children in Flood-Affected Dain Village, Ghizer – Gilgit Baltistan
Summary
Alkhidmat Foundation has established a Tent School in flood-affected Dain Village, Ghizer (Gilgit Baltistan) to ensure continued education for children whose schooling was disrupted by disasters. This initiative directly supports over 50 children, contributing to Alkhidmat’s broader mission to address Pakistan’s 22.2 million out-of-school children crisis.
Along with the Tent School, school supply kits were distributed to help students resume learning with dignity, hope, and motivation.
Story / Update
Pakistan faces one of the world’s largest education emergencies, with 22.2 million children currently out of school. Natural disasters such as floods further worsen this crisis by destroying schools and forcing children—especially in remote areas—out of classrooms.
In Dain Village, Ghizer, recent floods severely damaged educational infrastructure, leaving dozens of children without access to schooling. Recognizing the urgency, Alkhidmat Foundation intervened by establishing a Tent School, providing a safe, temporary learning environment until permanent facilities can be restored.
To support effective learning, school supply kits—including notebooks, stationery, and basic learning materials—were distributed among students. These resources have helped restore routine, confidence, and a sense of normalcy for children affected by displacement and loss.
Community members shared that this initiative has prevented children from dropping out permanently and has renewed parents’ hope for their children’s future.
