A Story of Strength & Growth

By Rahina Opotu | Grants & Partnerships Officer

Since 2021, the Women MicroCredit Programme(WMP) has been empowering rural women entrepreneurs by giving them access to interest-free small-scale loans and financial literacy and business management skills training. Implemented in phases, our women beneficiaries pay back the loans over a period of six (6) months after an initial grace period of seven (7) weeks. Since inception till date, with the program currently in its fourth (4th) phase, the Women MicroCredit Programme has empowered 598 rural women entrepreneurs through small-scale interest-free loans ranging from 25,000 and 100,000 ($25 to $100).

The impact of the work we do is reflected in the changes we see in the lives of our beneficiaries, one of such cases is the story of Mary. Mary, a petty trader who sells groundnuts, used to purchase grains in small quantities prior to receiving our interest-free micro loan. After becoming a beneficiary of the Women MicroCreditProgramme, she was able to start buying her grains in bulk; securing better supply prices and increasing her profits. She has seen her business grow and has even diversified into another line of business; making wig closures, thus securing a second stream of income. With higher earnings, Mary now provides better care for her family and even supports her mother and siblings financially.

The Women MicroCredit Programme provides an opportunity for our beneficiaries and through your support we can help more women like Mary build sustainable livelihoods. Kindly keep supporting our work by donating and sharing why you choose to support us with your community of family and friends.

Thank you!
