Women LEAD’s 2020 LEAD Course kicked off on 29th Aug with the two-week long Leadership Institute this year. Adapting to the “new normal” brought about by the COVID19 pandemic, the 2020/21 LEAD Course is being conducted virtually via zoom sessions and we have planned our session accordingly until it is safer to do in-person sessions.
Despite the pandemic, we received applications from all over Nepal from young girls to secure a spot in the program. After a competitive selection process, 30 amazingly passionate young girls were shortlisted as our 2020 LEADers. Throughout the 2 weeks-long Leadership Institute (conducted virtually) and beyond, our 2020 LEADers have been demonstrating keen interest to learn new concepts/subjects, deep passion, and great enthusiasm.
“I could see some girls who'd never put their opinions forward, speaking during the sessions towards the end of the Leadership Institute. The ones who spoke more, stepped down for others to step up.” - Yuki, 2019 LEADer
After the Leadership Institute, our 30 LEADers have been actively engaged and involved in various other sessions like mentor-mentee events, virtual self-defense sessions among others. Our programs team and LEADers are now preparing for their School Leadership Program.
School Leadership Program (SLP) like the 2020 LEAD Course will be conducted virtually this year. Our LEADers will receive a 2 day-long orientation on 17th and 18th Dec 2020 to prepare them as they begin their SLP journey.
Reflecting on her SLP journey, our 2016 LEADer and current Fundraising Intern, Shreya, says that the whole journey of SLP was very empowering. She further added, "SLP is one of the most enriching learning experiences of my life; I still apply those skills in my life. My current involvements require me to work with youths and my SLP experience has definitely helped me in dealing and connecting with youths."
