Project Report | Feb 15, 2010
Update: February 2010

By Angela D. Coleman | President

Greetings! Please find more information about Sisterhood Agenda, its Sisterhood Empowerment Project, and Global Training Academy below.

BACKGROUND Sisterhood Agenda is a global, award-winning nonprofit organization that was started in 1994 by Princeton graduate Angela D. Coleman. Sisterhood Agenda creates and implements activities for women and girls with special emphasis on females of African descent. Sisterhood Agenda addresses the social, health, economic and cultural issues of this historically at-risk and traditionally underserved target population.

Based in the United States, Sisterhood Agenda serves over 5 million constituents each year and has thousands of global partners in over 32 countries. Sisterhood resources are listed in the organization’s online Global Resource Directory.

Sisterhood Agenda recognizes that the most effective programs often operate at the grassroots level. Sisterhood Agenda's social impact is expanded through partnerships with agencies, individuals and businesses throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, the Caribbean, United Kingdom, and Africa. Global Partners create an extensive sisterhood network to increase local organization capacity and empower girls and women to become agents for positive change around the globe.

The Sisterhood Empowerment Project is a large part of making this vision a reality.

ACTIVITIES Many service providers have requested in-house training, education, and support. As a result, Sisterhood Agenda is in the U.S. Virgin Islands setting up its Global Training Academy. The Sisterhood Agenda Global Training Academy is a USVI-based learning center for training, resource-sharing, and knowledge. The Global Training Academy also includes an interactive Internet-based learning system component.

The first Global Training Academy gathering is a Sisterhood Unity Conference for Healing. The conference engages program participants, parents, project staff, partner agencies, and the general public. The Unity Conference provides Train the Trainer opportunities to increase the capacity of individuals and agencies working with youth and scale the strategy, thus increasing and expanding its impact. The Project provides unique opportunities for youth and educators to educate, entertain, empower, and support each other in the spirit of sisterhood and brotherhood. With its cultural enrichment, programming, media, public education, and learning modules, the Global Training Academy Sisterhood Unity Conference is a model for capacity-building and sustainability.

With support from Google and YouTube, Sisterhood Agenda Magazine has been converted to an online publication that is completely digital. The new online magazine format is:

*Visually attractive, interactive and fun *FREE for everyone *A green alternative to reduce paper and chemical consumption to save our environment *Distributed to Sisterhood Agenda's Global Network and Global Partners (over 5 million)

Sisterhood Agenda declared 2010 the Year of the Goddess. In addition to the magazine, Sisterhood Agenda will launch new multi-media services in 2010 that are participatory and promote the positive growth of global girls in sisterhood. These media services include new programs, webinars, videos, starter kits, and enhanced connections with Sisterhood Agenda Global Partners.

Everyone’s support has been tremendous! Thank you for putting Sisterhood on your Agenda and we look forward to bringing you more positive role models, inspirational stories and resources in the near future!
