*Report: The Journey We Have Walked Together*
*Theme: 860 Futures Stronger at Gaba Hope for Kids*
Since 2021, we have supported over 860 children through educational empowerment. That number is more than a count. It is 860 children who moved from staying home to showing up. 860 futures that are still open because someone removed a barrier at the right time.
*The Journey We Have Moved*
We did not start with thousands. We started with children right in front of us: a girl missing days because of her period, a child sent home for no uniform, a student ready to drop out to work. One child at a time, we learned what actually keeps children out of class.
Over the years, “educational empowerment” came to mean practical help, not just ideas:
1. *Remove Barriers*: School kits so no child is sent home in week one. Menstrual health kits so girls do not miss class for being girls. Repairs so rain does not close classrooms.
2. *Stay Close*: Peer mentors visit homes, check on progress, and walk with guardians. Children stay in school when someone is walking with them.
3. *Protect Futures*: We focus on keeping children in class through critical years so they can sit exams and choose secondary school. Leaving early often means leaving for good.
*What 860 Children Means*
860 children means classrooms with more hands raised. It means teachers spending time teaching instead of sending children home. It means parents seeing their child read, write, and dream about what comes next.
It also means proof. Practical support works. When we meet needs for uniforms, supplies, safe spaces, and mentoring, children show up and learn. Attendance rises. Confidence grows. Futures change.
*What Keeps Us Going*
Every child has a name and a story behind that number 860. Some we found on the street and walked to class. Some we kept from dropping out during hard seasons. Some we equipped so being a girl did not mean missing school. Each one reminds us why we started.
The work is not finished. For every child supported, there is another waiting. But 860 tells us the model is sound. Small, consistent steps change lives.
*Next Steps On This Journey*
To keep moving forward, we will:
1. *Stay Practical*: Keep removing the exact barriers children name each term.
2. *Strengthen Mentors*: Equip more peer mentors because relationships keep children in class.
3. *Think Long-Term*: Help children finish the stages they start, from first day to final exam.
*Closing*
The journey we have moved with Gaba Hope for Kids shows what happens when a community refuses to let barriers win. 860 children empowered since 2021 means 860 reasons to keep going.
