Lets open more futures for needy children - update

By Nansubuga Bibiana | Fundraiser

Report: Lets Open More Futures For Needy Children - Update Call
Theme: The Need Is Here, The Time Is Now at Gaba Hope for Kids

Lets open more futures for needy children. Since 2021 we have supported over 860 children, and each term the update is the same: futures are opened one barrier at a time. But more children are waiting at the classroom door with needs we can meet before they lose their place.

*Update From The Ground*
1. *Children Are Ready, Barriers Are Not*: Needy children want to learn. They arrive on day one with hope. What stops them is not lack of effort. It is leaking roofs, missing materials, shame during menstruation, and no mentor who notices when they start to slip.
2. *Absence Starts Small*: A child misses one day. Then two. Then they stop coming. The update we hear from teachers is clear: act early, before absence becomes dropout.
3. *Girls Are At Highest Risk*: Without dignity and support each month, girls lose days, lose confidence, lose grades. When we protect dignity, they stay all month and lead in class.
4. *Belonging Changes Everything*: Children from the street and orphans tell us the same thing: “I stayed because someone saved me a seat.” Mentoring and welcome are as critical as supplies.

*What Opening More Futures Requires Now*
1. *Remove Barriers Before Term Breaks A Child*: Fix shelter, provide learning materials, deliver menstrual kits with training, assign mentors. Meet the need in week one, not term three.
2. *Keep Children Visible*: Every child has a name, a story, a future. We assess with teachers and children so no one becomes invisible.
3. *Stay Consistent Term After Term*: One intervention helps. Sustained support builds a future. Children need us present through exams, not just at opening.
4. *Amplify Their Voice*: Let needy children speak for themselves. When they tell their story, more people choose to act.

*The Update We Want To Share Next Term*
We want to report more “Rainy Day Glimpses” where class stays open. More “Whole Month Glimpses” where girls sit with dignity. More “Return Glimpses” where children from the street are back at their desks. More “Hand-Up Glimpses” where silent children answer with confidence.

That update only happens if we open more futures now, while children are resuming school.

*Closing Call*
Lets open more futures for needy children. Not someday. This term. With the child in front of us. With the barrier we can remove today. With the decision to act before a child disappears.

Every future opened is a child kept. Every barrier removed is a dream protected. Every needy child who stays is a community that gains.

The update is clear: the need is here. The children are ready. Will you help open more futures with us?

Every child deserves a future that stays open.
