Executive Summary
At Gaba Hope for Kids, we believe education is the key to success. But a key is useless if a child can’t reach the door. In Gaba, hunger and fees lock too many children out of learning. This report shows how we’re removing those barriers so education can work.
The Challenge in Gaba
1. Many children miss learning time due to hunger.
2. Families struggle with daily income, making fees and supplies impossible.
3. Without intervention, children drop out before P7 and the cycle of poverty continues.
Our Response: Unlocking Education
We run 3 core programs that address why kids leave learning:
School Feeding: Our feeding program continues to provide daily nutritious meals so children can focus.
Education Support: We provide uniforms, books, and fee support to keep vulnerable children enrolled.
Family Support: We offer emergency food and parenting workshops to create stable homes for learning.
Results: Education Working
Because children are fed and fees are covered, we’re seeing education become a real path to success:
1. Attendance: Average attendance rose significantly where meals are provided.
2. Retention: Most supported children stayed enrolled this term compared to the local average.
3. Performance: A strong number of our P7 candidates passed to secondary last year, up from before the program.
Story of Impact
Ester after joining our feeding program and receiving a uniform, she now attends daily. She ranked near the top of her class last term and wants to be a nurse. Education is now her key to success.
The Way Forward
Education remains the key, but we need to help more children grab it. With additional support, we can:
1. Expand the feeding program so more children stay in learning.
2. Create a P7 transition program so graduates don’t stop at primary.
3. Build food reserves to protect against supply disruptions.
