Hands on skills help redeem futures.

REPORT: HANDS-ON SKILLS FOR REDEEMING FUTURES

*Organization: Gaba Hope for Kids*
*Date: July 2026*

1. Introduction
At Gaba Hope for Kids, we believe education must go beyond the classroom. While school fees and materials keep children in class, hands-on skills give them the tools to build a better future. This report highlights why skills training is critical to reducing dropouts and preparing children for self-reliance.

2. Problem / Need Identified
Many children in low-income communities complete school but still struggle because they lack practical skills.
- Academic learning alone does not guarantee employment or income
- Children drop out and have no alternative livelihood options
- Girls especially face limited opportunities after school
- Communities need young people with skills in crafts, agriculture, tailoring, and basic trades

Through school visits, parent meetings, and peer organization feedback, we learned that skills plus education equals real opportunity.

 3. Actions Taken
To address this, Gaba Hope for Kids has started integrating hands-on skills into our programs:
1. Skills awareness in schools: Sessions to expose children to tailoring, crafts, gardening, and entrepreneurship from an early age
2. Holiday skills camps: Practical training during school breaks in soap making, beadwork, and basic agriculture
3. Mentorship and role models: Inviting skilled community members to teach and inspire children
4. Linking skills to livelihoods: Supporting older youth and parents with starter kits so they can apply what they learn
5. Aligning with term-based support: Ensuring children who receive school support also get access to skills opportunities

4. What We Learned
- Children are eager to learn practical skills alongside academics
- Hands-on training builds confidence, creativity, and problem-solving
- Skills reduce the risk of dropout because children see a clear path beyond school
- Parents support programs that can lead to income for the family
- Skills training makes our education support more sustainable

5. Recommendations and Next Steps
- Expand skills training to more schools and communities
- Develop partnerships with vocational trainers and local artisans
- Provide tools and starter kits to graduates of skills programs
- Integrate life skills and financial literacy into all training
- Track outcomes to measure how skills improve retention and future income

6. Conclusion
Hands-on skills help redeem futures.
By combining consistent school support with practical training, Gaba Hope for Kids is not just keeping children in class — we are preparing them to thrive after school.
With continued support, we can equip more children with the skills, dignity, and opportunity they need to build self-reliant futures.

From all of us at Gaba Hope for Kids: Thank you for being generous.

We love you so much may God bless you abundantly send my regards to family and friends and.
