GABA HOPE FOR KIDS
Empowering Vulnerable Children & Mothers in Wakiso District, Uganda
IMPACT REPORT
Theme: Breaking the Barrier That Keeps Children Away From Class
1. INTRODUCTION
GABA HOPE FOR KIDS is located in Kisigula Village, Wakiso District. Our mission is to break the barriers that prevent vulnerable children from staying in school and to empower their mothers with skills for sustainable livelihoods.
Many children in our community face barriers such as lack of school fees, lack of scholastic materials, and poverty at home. This report shares how together with our supporters, we are breaking those barriers.
2. OUR BELIEF
We believe every child deserves to learn, no matter where they come from. When a child is kept away from class because of poverty, the whole community loses. Education breaks the cycle of poverty.
3. WHAT WE DID THIS MONTH
A. Breaking the Education Barrier
- Distributed scholastic materials like books, pens, pencils and school bags.
- Supported children at risk of dropping out to return to school.
- Conducted encouragement visits at homes and schools to keep children motivated.
B. Breaking the Poverty Barrier - Mothers Empowerment
- Trained vulnerable mothers in liquid soap making and tailoring.
- Provided start-up kits to help mothers start small businesses.
- Held mentorship sessions on savings, business skills and parenting.
C. Child Protection and Home Visits
- Visited families to check children's well-being, health and school attendance.
- Provided counseling and guidance to guardians and children.
4. IMPACT STORY - MEET FAITH
Faith is a young girl in primary school. She lost her parents and lives with her grandmother. Because of poverty, she could not get books and missed school for weeks.
The lack of school fees and materials became a big barrier that kept her away from class.
Through the support of our donors, we broke that barrier for Faith. We provided her with books, uniform and school support. Today she is back in school, smiling, confident and performing well.
Faith says: Thank you for helping me to go back to school. I want to become a teacher.
Faith's story is why we do this work. One child at a time, we are breaking the barrier that keeps children away from class.
5. CHALLENGES WE STILL FACE
- More children are coming for support than we can currently help.
- Rising costs of school fees and scholastic materials.
- Many mothers still need skills training and start-up support.
- Limited learning space for our programs.
6. OUR PLAN FOR NEXT MONTH
- Support children preparing for end-of-year examinations.
- Distribute more uniforms and shoes to children in need.
- Train more mothers in income-generating skills.
- Prepare fundraising for the next school year.
- Host a community appreciation day for children and mothers.
7. APPRECIATION
We sincerely thank all our donors on GlobalGiving, friends, volunteers and community leaders in Kisigula who stand with us. Your kindness is breaking barriers and keeping children in class.
8. CONCLUSION
The barrier is real, but together we can break it. With your continued support, more children will stay in school, more mothers will be empowered, and more futures will be bright.
