GABA HOPE FOR KIDS
Empowering Vulnerable Children and Mothers in Wakiso District, Uganda

IMPACT REPORT
Theme: Turning Community Mentorship Into Lasting Change for Children

1. INTRODUCTION
GABA HOPE FOR KIDS is located in Kisigula Village, Wakiso District. Our mission is to ensure vulnerable children stay in school and to empower their mothers and guardians with sustainable skills and hope.

Children grow stronger when the whole community guides them. Through mentorship from mothers, teachers and local leaders, we are turning everyday guidance into lasting change.

2. OUR BELIEF
We believe community mentorship is powerful. When a child is surrounded by caring adults who teach, encourage and protect their learning time, that child stays in school and builds a better future.

3. ACTIVITIES IMPLEMENTED

A. Community Mentorship for Children
- Conducted school and home visits to encourage children to stay in class and value learning time.
- Provided guidance and counseling to children at risk of dropping out.
- Held learning support sessions to improve confidence and performance.

B. Mentorship for Girls Dignity
- Conducted safe sessions on menstrual health to replace shame with knowledge and dignity.
- Mentored girls on self-confidence, hygiene and staying in school without interruption.
- Distributed reusable sanitary pads and hygiene kits through trusted women mentors.

C. Mentorship for Mothers and Guardians
- Trained mothers in income-generating skills including liquid soap making, tailoring and backyard farming.
- Held mentorship sessions on savings, business, parenting and family care.
- Created mother groups for shared learning, encouragement and accountability.

D. Strengthening Community Support
- Worked closely with teachers and local leaders to follow up on children's attendance.
- Encouraged guardians to create supportive home environments for learning.

4. IMPACT STORY - MEET FAITH
Faith is a young girl in primary school who lives with her grandmother. She had missed school many times due to lack of books and sanitary pads, and felt alone without guidance.

Through community mentorship, Faith received counseling, books, reusable pads and continuous encouragement from our team, her teachers and her grandmother's group. Her grandmother also received farming training and mentorship.

Today, Faith is in school every day, confident, and helping other girls feel confident too.

Faith says: Thank you for helping me to go back to school. I want to become a teacher.

Faith shows how mentorship turns into lasting change.

5. CHALLENGES
- Many more children and mothers need mentorship and support than we can currently reach.
- Need for more trained community mentors and learning space.
- Rising costs of scholastic materials and inputs for mothers projects.
- Some families still need deeper support to keep children consistently in school.

6. PLAN FOR NEXT
- Expand mentorship groups for children, girls and mothers.
- Provide more scholastic materials and dignity kits.
- Continue farming and business mentorship to strengthen family resilience.
- Strengthen community networks to ensure lasting change.

7. APPRECIATION
We sincerely thank all our donors on GlobalGiving, friends, volunteers, teachers and local leaders in Kisigula who mentor and stand with our children. Your support is turning community mentorship into lasting change.

8. CONCLUSION
One conversation can encourage a child to return to class. One mother mentored can keep her family strong. When a community mentors together, lasting change happens for children. With your continued support, more children will stay in school and build hopeful futures.
