Mend More Than Just Clothes

GABA HOPE FOR KIDS
Empowering Vulnerable Children and Mothers in Wakiso District, Uganda

IMPACT REPORT
Theme: Mend More Than Just Clothes

1. INTRODUCTION
GABA HOPE FOR KIDS is located in Kisigula Village, Wakiso District. Our mission is to ensure vulnerable children stay in school and to empower their mothers and guardians with sustainable livelihoods.

In our community, mending goes beyond needle and thread. When a mother learns to tailor, she mends dignity, family income and her children's future. This report shares how tailoring skills help us mend more than just clothes.

2. OUR BELIEF
We believe a sewing skill is a life skill. When a mother can mend, make and create, she can provide for her family, keep her children in school and restore hope at home.

3. ACTIVITIES IMPLEMENTED

A. Tailoring Skills Training
- Conducted hands-on training in tailoring, mending and making school uniforms.
- Taught mothers how to use sewing machines, measure, cut and stitch.
- Provided training in making reusable sanitary pads using sewing skills.

B. Start-Up Support
- Provided start-up kits including sewing machines, fabric and tailoring materials to trained mothers.
- Supported mothers to start small tailoring businesses from their homes.
- Linked sewing skills to income generation for school needs.

C. Family and Community Impact
- Helped mothers earn income to buy food, books and school materials for their children.
- Trained mothers to mend school uniforms, keeping children dignified and in class.
- Created support groups for mothers to share skills and encourage each other.

4. IMPACT STORY - MEET FAITH'S MOTHER
Faith is a young girl in primary school who lives with her grandmother. Her grandmother struggled to provide for her and could not afford to mend Faith's torn school uniform.

Through our tailoring training, her grandmother learned to mend and make clothes. She now earns a small income from mending clothes in the community. She mended Faith's uniform and provides books and food from her earnings.

Faith says: Thank you for helping my grandmother to learn tailoring. Now my uniform is mended and I can go to school every day.

Her story shows how we mend more than just clothes.

5. CHALLENGES
- Many more mothers want to learn tailoring than we can currently train.
- High cost of sewing machines, fabric and materials.
- Need for more training space and electricity support.
- Need for market linkages for mothers products.

6. PLAN FOR NEXT
- Train more mothers and girls in tailoring and mending.
- Provide more sewing machines and start-up kits.
- Expand training to include making reusable pads and school uniforms for vulnerable children.
- Strengthen mother groups for shared business and growth.

7. APPRECIATION
We sincerely thank all our donors on GlobalGiving, friends, volunteers and local leaders in Kisigula who support this work. Your support is helping mothers mend clothes and mend futures at the same time.

8. CONCLUSION
Every stitch mends dignity. Every uniform mended keeps a child in school. Every mother empowered through tailoring mends her family and community. With your continued support, we will continue to mend more than just clothes.
